Maruti Suzuki Posts Record October Sales Of 2.76 Lakh Units As Domestic Demand And Exports Surge

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, has reported its highest-ever monthly sales, selling 2,76,120 units in October 2026, a rise of twenty-five per cent over the 2,20,894 units sold in the same month last year. The record, disclosed in a stock exchange filing on Sunday, November 1, was driven by strong domestic demand and a sharp surge in exports, and it beat the company's previous monthly high of 2.43 lakh units set in May 2026.

Domestic sales, including light commercial vehicles but excluding supplies to other automakers, rose nearly twenty per cent to an all-time high of 2,16,789 units, up from 1,80,675 units in October 2025. Including supplies to other original equipment manufacturers, total domestic sales stood at 2,26,248 units, up 19.3 per cent from 1,89,590 units a year earlier.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales alone increased 20.5 per cent to 2,12,384 units, compared with 1,76,318 units in October 2025.

Exports were the standout performer in the month. Shipments rose 59.3 per cent to 49,872 units, compared with 31,304 units a year earlier, outpacing the growth in domestic volumes. Sales to other automakers rose 6.1 per cent to 9,459 units, up from 8,915 units. The combination of a record domestic month and a near sixty per cent jump in exports produced a total that the company described as its highest-ever monthly sales volume.

Within the domestic passenger vehicle market, utility vehicles recorded faster growth than passenger cars and vans. Utility vehicle sales climbed 26.1 per cent to 97,787 units, up from 77,571 units. The segment includes popular models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6.

Combined sales of mini, compact and mid-size passenger cars rose 18.4 per cent to 1,00,877 units, compared with 85,210 units a year earlier. That category includes the Alto, Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, S-Presso, Swift and WagonR.

Growth was more modest in vans and light commercial vehicles. Eeco sales increased 1.4 per cent to 13,720 units, up from 13,537 units, while sales of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle edged up 1.1 per cent to 4,405 units, compared with 4,357 units a year earlier. The pattern suggests that the October surge was led by private buyers choosing passenger cars and, above all, utility vehicles, rather than by commercial demand.

The October result capped a strong first seven months of the financial year. For April to October of financial year 2026-27, Maruti Suzuki's total sales rose 27.4 per cent to 16,55,498 units, compared with 12,99,629 units in the corresponding period last year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales in that period increased thirty-three per cent to 12,92,624 units, up from 9,71,764 units.

Within that total, utility vehicle volumes grew 40.1 per cent to 5,53,479 units, while combined mini, compact and mid-size car sales rose 31.2 per cent to 6,51,971 units.

Cumulative domestic sales, including light commercial vehicles but excluding supplies to other automakers, stood at 13,17,049 units for April to October, against 9,93,088 units a year earlier. Eeco volumes for the period increased to 87,174 units from 79,803 units, while Super Carry sales reached 24,425 units, up from 21,324 units. Exports during April to October increased 18.4 per cent to 2,82,727 units, compared with 2,38,763 units.

Supplies to other automakers, however, declined 17.8 per cent over the seven-month period to 55,722 units, down from 67,778 units in the previous year.

Industry watchers attributed the October performance to festive-season demand, which traditionally lifts car purchases in India, and to a broader recovery in consumer spending. October is a key month for automakers because buyers often time big purchases to festivals, and the strength across both small cars and utility vehicles suggests that demand was broad-based rather than confined to a single segment.

The export surge, meanwhile, points to growing acceptance of India-made Maruti Suzuki models in overseas markets and to the company's expanding role as a manufacturing base for global markets.

The record also underlines Maruti Suzuki's continued dominance of the Indian passenger vehicle market. Despite growing competition from Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra and Kia, all of which also reported growth in October, Maruti Suzuki remains the volume leader by a wide margin.

Its ability to sell across price points, from entry-level hatchbacks such as the Alto and S-Presso to larger utility vehicles such as the Grand Vitara and Invicto, gives it a reach that few rivals can match.

For the wider economy, strong automobile sales are often read as a signal of consumer confidence. Cars are among the largest discretionary purchases made by Indian households, and a record month for the country's biggest carmaker, achieved despite a high base in the year-ago period, suggests that households were willing to commit to big-ticket spending in October.

That confidence, if sustained, has implications for suppliers, dealers, financiers and the thousands of workers employed across the automotive value chain.

The export story is equally significant. A 59.3 per cent jump in a single month is a sharp movement, and it comes on top of steady growth over the seven-month period. For India, which has ambitions to become a larger hub for automobile manufacturing and exports, the performance of its biggest carmaker in overseas markets is a useful indicator. It suggests that Indian plants can compete on cost and quality in markets that are often served by factories in other countries.

Challenges remain, of course. Input costs, currency movements, competition and the pace of the shift towards electric vehicles will all shape the months ahead. Maruti Suzuki's own line-up now includes the e Vitara among its utility vehicles, reflecting the industry's gradual move towards electrification, but the bulk of its sales still comes from petrol, diesel and hybrid models.

How quickly buyers shift, and how the company manages that transition while protecting its volume leadership, will be one of the key questions for the rest of the financial year.

For now, however, October 2026 stands as a landmark month for the company. A total of 2,76,120 units, domestic sales at an all-time high of 2,16,789 units excluding other automakers, and exports of nearly fifty thousand units together tell a story of a carmaker firing on both its domestic and international engines at the same time.

The previous record, set only in May 2026, has been beaten by a wide margin, and the seven-month cumulative total of more than 16.55 lakh units puts the company well ahead of last year's pace.

As dealers close their books on the festive month and look ahead to the rest of the year, the question will be whether October's momentum can be sustained. Festive demand is seasonal by nature, and the months that follow often see a cooling in footfalls. But the breadth of the October growth, across small cars, utility vehicles and exports, gives the company a stronger base from which to face that test than it had a year ago.
