PM Modi, Rajinikanth And Ajith Kumar On Reported Guest List For Anirudh-Kavya Maran's Chennai Reception

The upcoming wedding celebrations of music composer Anirudh Ravichander and Sunrisers Hyderabad co-owner Kavya Maran have become one of the most talked-about events in Indian entertainment, with a reported Chennai reception guest list that spans prime ministers, chief ministers, film superstars, and cricket personalities.

The reception is reported to be scheduled for November 21 in Chennai, while the wedding itself is reported to be planned as an intimate destination ceremony in Greece on November 10 and 11.

It is important to state at the outset what has and has not been confirmed. Neither the couple nor their families have officially confirmed the reported wedding plans or the full guest list. Much of what is circulating comes from media reports, social media posts, and a wedding invitation that went viral online.

The Telangana Chief Minister's Office has, however, confirmed the November 21 reception date in a public post about an invitation extended to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Beyond that, the names discussed below are reported invitees, and an invitation, as several reports have cautioned, should not be taken as confirmation that any particular guest will attend.

The political dimension of the celebrations has drawn particular attention. Kavya Maran's parents, Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran and his wife Kavery Maran, have been personally inviting political leaders to the reception. They met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to extend the invitation, accompanied by Anirudh's parents, actor Ravi Raghavendra and Lakshmi Ravichander.

They also met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, with Anirudh accompanying them, and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at his residence in Hyderabad. The family further met Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi present, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Other political figures mentioned in reports include Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. The breadth of the political list reflects the Maran family's long-standing presence in Tamil Nadu public life and business, as well as the Sun Group's position as one of southern India's most influential media houses.

A wedding reception that brings together leaders across party lines would be notable in itself, though it is worth remembering that such gatherings are social occasions, and attendance at a wedding does not signal political alignment.

From the film industry, the reported guest list reads like a roll call of southern cinema. Rajinikanth, who is Anirudh's uncle, is among the prominent names reported to have been invited, along with Ajith Kumar and his wife Shalini Ajith Kumar.

Music composer A R Rahman, actors Kamal Haasan and Dhanush, Sivakarthikeyan and his wife Aarthi, Telugu superstar Allu Arjun and his wife Sneha, director Nelson Dilipkumar, and actors Andrea Jeremiah, Prasanna and Sooraj Venjaramoodu are also mentioned in reports.

Given Kavya Maran's association with the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in the Indian Premier League, guests from the cricketing fraternity are also expected, adding a sporting dimension to an already star-studded occasion.

The invitation itself has become part of the story. A designer involved in creating the wedding invites shared glimpses of her work on social media, describing the experience of designing invites for Kavya Maran and Anirudh as deeply satisfying. The invitation subsequently went viral, fuelling speculation and excitement among fans.

In an age when celebrity weddings are often announced through carefully managed social media posts, the organic spread of the invitation gave the celebrations an air of authenticity that official announcements sometimes lack, even as it also blurred the line between confirmed detail and rumour.

Anirudh Ravichander is one of India's leading music composers, with a career that spans Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema. He debuted with the song "Why This Kolaveri D" with Dhanush, a track that became a global viral phenomenon and launched him into the spotlight. Since then he has composed for some of the biggest names in Indian cinema, including Shah Rukh Khan, Pawan Kalyan and Vijay, and his latest work includes the music for Rajinikanth's "Jailer 2".

His energetic, mass-appeal compositions and his collaborations across industries have made him one of the most sought-after composers of his generation.

Kavya Maran, meanwhile, occupies a distinctive position at the intersection of business, media and sport. She is the chief executive of Sunrisers Hyderabad and a director at Sun TV Network. After completing her MBA at Warwick Business School in the United Kingdom, she joined Sun TV Network as an executive director in 2019 and later took on a leadership role at Sunrisers Hyderabad, the IPL franchise owned by the Sun Group.

Her regular presence at IPL matches, her calm demeanour in the team dugout, and her growing public profile have made her one of the most recognisable franchise owners in the league, and her wedding has consequently attracted attention well beyond the usual entertainment news cycle.

The reported Greece wedding, if it takes place as described, would follow a pattern familiar from recent high-profile Indian celebrity weddings, where an intimate destination ceremony for close friends and family is followed by a larger reception at home for a wider circle. Greece, with its scenic islands and historic venues, has become a popular choice for such celebrations, offering privacy as well as spectacle.

The Chennai reception, by contrast, is expected to be a grand affair, reflecting both families' roots in Tamil Nadu and their extensive networks in politics, cinema and business.

Fan reaction has been enthusiastic, with social media abuzz over the pairing of one of Indian cinema's most popular composers with one of cricket's most visible franchise owners. For many fans, the wedding represents a convergence of two worlds they follow closely: film music and the IPL.

That dual appeal explains why the story has travelled beyond entertainment pages into mainstream news coverage, and why every new detail, from the invitation design to the guest list, is parsed and shared widely.

There are, however, reasons for restraint in reporting the details. Celebrity wedding coverage often relies on unnamed sources and social media chatter, and early reports can prove inaccurate on dates, venues and guest lists. The discrepancy in some reports about the reception date, with one outlet mentioning November 2 while the Telangana Chief Minister's Office and most other reports cite November 21, is a reminder to treat unconfirmed details with caution.

Until the families issue an official statement, the prudent approach is to describe the plans as reported, to distinguish confirmed meetings and invitations from speculative guest lists, and to avoid presenting attendance as a certainty.

What can be said with confidence is that two prominent families have begun the process of inviting political leaders and film personalities to a Chennai reception on November 21, that the wedding is widely reported to be planned in Greece on November 10 and 11, and that the celebrations, if they unfold as reported, will bring together an unusually broad cross-section of Indian public life.

Whether every name on the reported list ultimately attends, the event is already shaping up to be one of the most high-profile weddings of the year, watched by fans of cinema, cricket and politics alike.
