PV Sindhu And Lakshya Sen Complete Super Sunday Double For India At Hylo Open 2026

Indian badminton enjoyed a memorable Super Sunday at the Hylo Open 2026 as PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen won the women's and men's singles titles respectively at the Super 500 tournament in Saarbrucken, Germany, on November 1. Both finals were won in straight games, and both took just thirty-nine minutes, giving India a clean sweep of the singles crowns at one of the most important events on the BWF World Tour calendar.

Sindhu set the tone for the day. The double Olympic medallist and former world champion defeated Denmark's Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the women's singles final at the Saarlandhalle. The second seed and world number eight needed only thirty-nine minutes to beat the world number twenty-five Danish shuttler, displaying excellent control and precision in her strokeplay and never allowing her opponent to settle into the match.

Playing her second final in successive weeks, Sindhu took control early. The first game was tied at five-all before she shifted gears and ran away with the opener. In the second game, she never fell behind and comfortably wrapped up the title.

After the match, she said it had been important to give her hundred per cent irrespective of who the opponent was, to focus on every point, to take the lead from the beginning and not to give her opponent a chance. The words captured a performance built on focus rather than flair, on taking the lead and holding it.

The victory was Sindhu's second title on the BWF World Tour this year, following her triumph at the Japan Open Super 750 in July. It was also her first individual title since December 2024 until the Japan win, and it marked the first season since 2022 in which she has won multiple World Tour titles. Overall, she now has seven BWF World Tour titles to her name.

She had also finished runner-up at the French Open last week, losing to world number one and Paris 2024 champion An Se-young of South Korea, and the Hylo Open victory was another significant boost to her late-season campaign.

The title run also earned Sindhu 9,200 ranking points, strengthening her bid for a place in the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals. With the race for qualification tightening as the season enters its closing stretch, every title and every point matters, and a straight-games win in a Super 500 final is a valuable addition to her case. Her record against Kjaersfeldt also improved: she had lost just once to the Danish player in seven meetings heading into Sunday's final.

Later in the day, Lakshya Sen produced a commanding performance of his own to defeat Indonesia's Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 in the men's singles final, also in thirty-nine minutes. The seventh seed and world number fourteen, who had finished runner-up at the All England Championships earlier this year, outwitted the sixth-ranked Christie to claim his second Hylo Open title and to end a title drought that had stretched back to the Australian Open in November 2025.

Sen started well and troubled Christie with deft net shots to take an 18-10 lead in the first game. The Indonesian responded with seven straight points to reduce the deficit to just one, but Sen kicked on at the right moment to take the first game before dominating the second in a rather one-sided affair.

The victory brought Sen level with Christie in their career head-to-head record at four wins each, and it secured his fifth BWF World Tour title, in addition to two Super 100 crowns.

Sen's first Hylo Open crown had come in 2019, when the tournament was classified as a BWF Super 100 event. Winning it again, now as a Super 500 event, underlined how far he has come since then and how much the tournament has grown in stature. He had won the Australian Open and reached the finals at the Hong Kong Open in 2025, and he came into the final with a 3-4 head-to-head record against Christie, whom he had defeated at the Paris Olympics.

After the match, he said he was happy to get back to winning ways, a simple statement that reflected the relief of ending a year-long wait for a title.

The double success marked a significant milestone for Indian badminton. It was the first time in four years that two Indian shuttlers had won singles titles at the same BWF World Tour event at Super 500 level or above. The last such double-title achievement came at the 2022 India Open, where Sen captured the men's singles crown while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty emerged victorious in men's doubles.

The Hylo Open double, with both singles titles going to India, was therefore a rarer and more complete achievement.

The tournament, a USD 500,000 event, attracted a strong field, and the fact that both Indian finalists won in straight games spoke to the quality of their performances on the day. Sindhu, who had won every match in the tournament in straight games, maintained a flawless record through the week. Sen, similarly, produced his best badminton when it mattered most, in the final against a top-ten opponent who had pushed him hard in the first game.

For Indian badminton, the timing of the double could hardly have been better. With the season-ending World Tour Finals approaching, both players needed strong results to secure qualification and to build momentum. Sindhu's late-season form, with a Japan Open title, a French Open final and now a Hylo Open title, suggests a player returning to her best at exactly the right time.

Sen's return to the podium, after a year without a World Tour title, suggests a player rediscovering the winning habit that took him to the top of the game.

Beyond the rankings and the points, the double was a reminder of the depth of Indian badminton. For years, Indian success on the World Tour was built around a handful of stars. The Hylo Open showed two of those stars winning on the same day, in the same arena, in front of a German crowd that witnessed an Indian clean sweep.

For young players watching at home, the message was clear: Indian shuttlers can win at the highest level, in both the men's and women's events, on the same day.

As the season moves towards its conclusion, both Sindhu and Sen will now turn their attention to the remaining events and to the World Tour Finals. The Hylo Open titles will give them confidence, points and momentum, but they will also raise expectations. The challenge now is to sustain the form that produced two thirty-nine-minute finals in Saarbrucken and to carry it into the biggest events of the year.

On the evidence of Super Sunday, both players are ready for that challenge.
