Sai Durgha Tej Gets Engaged to Childhood Friend Kiran as Mega Family Gathers in Hyderabad

Telugu actor Sai Durgha Tej got engaged to his childhood friend Kiran in Hyderabad on Thursday, 5 November, in a private ceremony that brought together some of the biggest names of Telugu cinema, with megastar Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun among those who gathered to bless the couple. The couple are set to marry in Hyderabad on 10 December 2026.

The engagement took place at the Hilton Hyderabad Genome Valley Resort, where Sai Durgha Tej and Kiran exchanged rings in the presence of close friends and relatives. The ceremony was deliberately intimate, limited to family and a small circle of friends, but the guest list read like a roll call of the Konidela and Allu families, two of the most influential film families in Telugu cinema, and photographs from the evening quickly spread across social media.

Chiranjeevi attended the ceremony with his wife Surekha, while Ram Charan was among the family members who came to congratulate the newly engaged couple. Allu Arjun arrived with his wife Sneha Reddy, alongside Allu Sirish and Nayanika Reddy. Varun Tej attended with his wife Lavanya Tripathi and their son Vaayuv Tej, and Niharika Konidela was also present.

The gathering included Allu Aravind and Allu Nirmala, Allu Bobby and Neela Shah, Naga Babu and Padmaja, and Pawan Kalyan's children Akira Nandan and Aadhya. Sai Durgha Tej's parents, Dr Siva Prasad and Vijaya Durga, and his brother Vaishnav Tej were at the centre of the celebrations.

Ram Charan shared a photograph from the engagement on social media and extended his wishes to the couple, congratulating them on their new beginning and wishing them a lifetime of love, happiness and togetherness. He added the hashtag #KiranTejForever to his post, a tag that was soon picked up by fans celebrating the news.

The photograph showed the extended family together, and it was the image that most fans first saw of the ceremony, capturing the warmth of a family occasion that had been kept private until the families chose to share it.

The engagement marks the beginning of the wedding celebrations for the couple, who have known each other since childhood. Kiran has stayed away from the public eye, and the families have shared little about her beyond the fact that she is Sai Durgha Tej's childhood friend.

That discretion fits the tone of the ceremony itself, which was held away from the media glare despite the star power in the room, with the families choosing a private resort venue and a guest list drawn from their closest circle.

For the Mega family, as the Konidela clan is popularly known, the engagement is the latest in a series of family milestones that have been followed closely by fans of Telugu cinema. Chiranjeevi, the patriarch of the family and one of Indian cinema's biggest stars, has watched his extended family grow into a network of actors, producers and filmmakers that spans generations.

Ram Charan, his son, is among the most successful actors of his generation, while Allu Arjun, related to the family by marriage through Chiranjeevi, is one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema today. Varun Tej, Niharika Konidela and Vaishnav Tej, Sai Durgha Tej's younger brother, are all part of the same extended family, and their presence at the engagement underlined how closely knit the clan remains.

Sai Durgha Tej himself has built a career that stands apart from the family name. He made his acting debut with Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham in 2014 and has since established himself as a leading actor in Telugu cinema with a string of commercial successes. In March 2024, he changed his name from Sai Dharam Tej to Sai Durgha Tej, a decision that drew attention at the time and that he has carried into his professional work since.

The actor, who is also known as Sai Dharam Tej, is set to headline director Rohith KP's pan-Indian film Sambarala Yeti Gattu, which is slated for release on 12 January next year, giving him a major project to look forward to as he enters a new phase of his personal life.

The wedding, scheduled for 10 December in Hyderabad, is expected to be a larger affair, and the engagement has already set off speculation about the scale of the celebrations and the guest list. For now, the families have confirmed only the date and the city, and the focus remains on the engagement itself and the couple's happiness.

The ceremony's private character, the presence of the entire extended family and the warmth of the messages shared on social media all suggest a wedding that will be followed just as closely when December arrives.

The news was received warmly by fans, who flooded social media with congratulatory messages for the couple. For followers of Telugu cinema, the engagement was also a rare chance to see the Konidela and Allu families together in one frame, a reminder of the bonds that tie together some of the industry's most prominent names.

The photograph shared by Ram Charan, showing the families gathered around the newly engaged couple, became the defining image of the day, and the hashtag coined for the occasion spread quickly.

Engagements and weddings in film families often become public events in their own right, and this one is no exception. But the families' decision to keep the ceremony small and private, and to share the news on their own terms, gave the occasion a personal quality that fans appreciated. The couple exchanged rings on Thursday morning, according to reports, and spent the day with their families before the news was shared publicly in the evening.

As the wedding date approaches, attention will turn to the arrangements in Hyderabad and to the couple's plans. For Sai Durgha Tej, the coming weeks will bring both a wedding and a film release, two milestones arriving close together at the end of the year and the start of the next. For Kiran, the engagement marks a step into a public life she has so far avoided, as the newest member of one of Telugu cinema's best-known families.

The families have welcomed her warmly, and the celebrations in Hyderabad on Thursday suggested that the welcome is genuine.

The engagement of Sai Durgha Tej and Kiran is, above all, a family story, and it was celebrated as one. In a resort on the outskirts of Hyderabad, surrounded by parents, siblings, cousins and uncles, two childhood friends exchanged rings and set a date for their wedding. The stars in attendance were family first, and the photographs that emerged from the evening showed a gathering that was happy, relaxed and, for all its fame, unmistakably personal.
